Demetra Patras (Xenos) of Andover formerly of Medford passed away on February 20, 2025. She was 94 years old. Demetra was the beloved wife of the late Charles E. “Rip” Patras. Born in Hudson, MA, she was the cherished daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Adams) Xenos.
Prior to her retirement, Demetra was employed as the Veterans Liaison at Boston University and later went to work as a Page for the Medford Public Library. She was a member of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Somerville. Demetra loved camping, hiking and taking long walks. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitter and enjoyed any type of needlework. Demetra’s greatest love were family, especially her three grandchildren, who she adored above all else.
Demetra was the devoted mother of Charles Patras and his wife Claire of Haverhill and Karen Patras and her late husband Charles Cook of Wakefield. She was the adored grandmother of Charles, George and Jamie Patras. Demetra was the dear sister of the late George Xenos, the late Daniel Xenos and his late wife Kay and the late Nick Xenos and his late wife Eleanor. She was the sister-in-law to Olympia and Vasilios Panagiotakopoulos of Medford, the late George Patras and his surviving wife Eugenia of Medford and the late Esther Kappos and her surviving husband John of Billerica. Demetra is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 26, from 9-11AM in the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, Greek Orthodox Church, 29 Central St. Somerville, MA, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Services will conclude with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery-Medford.
