Obituary

Elaine M. (Lavoie) Pond , 93, of Auburn died Wednesday February 19th. Her devoted husband of 65 years, George S. Pond, Jr. died in 2017. She leaves three daughters, JoAnn Daoust of Moosup, Ct, Diane O’Connor and her husband Jim, Gina Skog and her husband Rob, all of Auburn; five grandchildren, Amy O’Connor, Sean O’Connor, Christopher Daoust, Michael Daoust, and Daniel Skog and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and Leo; and her son in law, Jack Daoust.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of John L. And Theodora M. (Lariviere) Lavoie. She was raised in Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School in 1949.
When her children entered school age, she began her working career at Iandoli’s Market, building lasting friendships that continued, especially with Mel Chandler and Sylvia Pritchard. They continued their visits and taking her for fun outings that she always looked forward to. After leaving there she worked for many years at Fallon Clinic as a receptionist.
In her retirement she and George enjoyed traveling to casinos with lifelong friend Winnie Huberdault and spending time with family and friends. She was a devout member of Saint Peter’s Church, volunteering at the Food Bank, eager to lend a hand to those in need. She found joy in quilting for family and spending the holidays with them. She loved when her great grandchildren would visit and play games.
In her later years she cherished the special bond she shared with her caregiver, Laura. Their time spent together playing Yahtzee, making puzzles, trips with her new casino buddy brought her much joy and lots of laughs.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all her caretakers, especially Jim her physical therapist, who showed her great compassion with his care. We appreciate all the care Elaine received by the wonderful staff at Lakeside 2 ICU.
Her funeral is Monday, February 24th with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street, Worcester. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private in Hillside Cemetery Auburn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
