Cecil Floyd Jones, 84, of Tifton died Thursday, August 10, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2006, in the sanctuary of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Roe and Rev. Jim Donovan will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Stephen Skoropat, Brian Cromer, Keith Reynolds, Steven Jones, Greg Jones and Todd Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be the New Men’s Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, members of the Kiwanis Club, First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir, Joyful Sound Choir, Deacons of First Baptist Church, SAINTS Exercise Class, H. C. Medford, Dr. Morris Davis, Bunnie and Scott Chestnutwood and Kay Brownlee. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 12, 2006, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Jones was born on August 29, 1921 in Chancellor, Alabama and was the son of Sam Jones and Carrie Baston Jones, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray Jones. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir, the Joyful Sound Choir, member of the Board of Deacons, taught Sunday School for many years and a member of the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Jones graduated from Coffee County High School in Enterprise, Alabama in 1941. In 1941, he went to work for Atlantic Coastline Railroad as a station laborer. He moved to Tifton in 1966 and worked as an agent here until 1978; worked in Albany as an agent from 1978 to 1983; and moved back to Tifton in 1983, when he retired from the railroad after more than 41 years.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Laura Dean Jones of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Brenda Jones of Waycross and Jeff and Anne Jones of Cartersville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marsha and Philip Skoropat of Fernandina Beach, Florida and Debbie Cromer of Tifton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Patsy Jones of Warner Robins and Hulan and Ann Jones of Enterprise, Alabama; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Jean and Charles Averett of Enterprise, Alabama and Winnie Honeycutt of Montgomery, Alabama; a sister-in-law, Mildred Jones of Geneva, Alabama; six grandchildren, Ashley Jones, Lindsay Jones, Stephen Skoropat, Laura Reynolds and her husband, Keith, Rebecca Skoropat and Brian Cromer; and two great grandchildren, Taylor Cromer and Jackson Reynolds.
