Obituary

Dr. Bernard J. “Bernie” Daly, Jr., 78, of Andover, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on February 19, 2025.

Born on April 17, 1946, in Boston to Dr. Bernard J. and Helen Daly, Bernie grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Central Catholic High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Fairfield University in Connecticut before receiving his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1971. Bernie met his future wife, Ann (Couilliard), at Hampton Beach in the summer of 1966, and they married on August 14, 1971. For over 50 years, Bernie practiced dentistry on the first floor of the family home on Main Street.

An active member of his community, Bernie served on the boards of Lazarus House Ministries in Lawrence and Lowell Five Savings Bank. Known for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor, Bernie charmed everyone he met. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and Boston Terriers and had a passion for travel, visiting places such as Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Hawaii, and Las Vegas with Ann and friends. He and Ann spent their time between their home in Andover and their place at Salisbury Beach.

In his downtime, Bernie loved playing cards with Ann, working on his golf game, and following horse racing.

Bernie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann, and their two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Tim Shyne of Scituate, and Beth and Todd Doehner of York, Maine. He adored being Grandpa to his grandchildren, Bridget and Kevin Shyne. He is also survived by his dear friends, Bridget and Paul Shaheen of Seabrook, NH, and Br. Thomas Schady, FMS, of Forest Hills, New York. He will be deeply missed by all.
