Valdemiro V. Melo, 63, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away on Tuesday, February 18 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.
He was born on October 7, 1961 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and was a son of the late Valdemiro C. Melo and the late Maria L. (Veiga) Melo. The family came to the United States when he was a boy and settled in Lowell. He was educated in Graciosa and Lowell. Following high school, he worked in local shoe shops and factories before finding his career in the construction industry. He worked in that field most of the rest of his life, specializing in roofing and masonry.
His work was his life and he was an incredibly hard-working man. He had a great sense of humor, especially around his family. When he did relax, he was a longtime patron of the Portuguese American Center “The Blues Club” in Lowell.
He is survived by his sons, Val Melo Jr. of Washington State and Dennis Melo and his two grandchildren; his siblings, Manuel Melo of Lowell, Rita Ghizzo and her husband, Adair, of Lowell, Carlos Melo and his wife, Mildred, of Litchfield, NH; his two half sisters, Eldora Silva and Zelia Chaves, both of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and many nieces and nephews.
All are Welcome to attend his visitation on Friday, February 21, 2025 from 9 am until 11 am at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA. Following the visitation, his funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m.. Procession will follow for burial at Westlawn II Cemetery.
