Obituary

CHICOPEE - Elaine Ann Cramer Delisle, 86, longtime resident of Chicopee, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025. Born in Holyoke in 1938, Elaine lived in the Fairview section of Chicopee until 2020 when she moved to Walpole, MA to be closer to her family. She graduated from Chicopee High School in 1955 and married her true love, James Edward Delisle in 1958. She is survived by her children James, Jr., and Kathleen Patterson (Richard); her grandchildren Jed, (Caitlin) Scott, (Heather), Kevin, and Caroline; and her brother Donald. She was predeceased by her husband James in 1989 and her sister Shirley Pelland in 2020. A dedicated educator, Elaine taught elementary school in Chicopee for over 30 years after earning degrees from Holyoke Community College, UMass Amherst, and American International College. She was known for her dedication and commitment to her students and their achievements. Elaine was an active member of Saint Anne Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed traveling on pilgrimages to religious sites. A rarity in these days, she received all her Roman Catholic sacraments at Saint Anne. She loved playing golf with friends, volunteering her time, and enjoyed her retirement years helping to raise her grandchildren and grand nieces and nephews. In her final years at Aldrich House of New Pond Village, Elaine was beloved by staff for her positive demeanor and kind words. She faced her Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2012 with grace, supported by compassionate caregivers. To honor Elaine’s memory, her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning February 25, 2025 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 4 pm to 7 pm.
