Obituary

Cecile Theresa Kane, age 91, went to be with our Lord when she died peacefully at Life Care Center Nursing Home on February 10, 2025.

Cecile was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Joseph Kane Jr. and their son Thomas J. Kane III. Cecile is survived by 5 children: John of Onset, Karin of Brookline, Eric and wife Theresa of Wrentham, Stephen of Boston, Kristin and husband Tim of Brookline. Cecile is also survived by 8 grandchildren: 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Cecile was born on January 13, 1934 in Boston Massachusetts to parents Nora and Dominic Rice. She was the third child of a family of 5 children. The family had a typical Irish American upbringing where both mother and father (both Irish Immigrants) worked very hard to provide for the family. Cece as she was known to many lived most of her early life in Watertown MA. She met her future husband Tom at an upscale party at the Winthrop Yacht Club where they were both guests of members of the club. Cecile and Tom were married in 1957 shortly after Tom was drafted into the army. They both traveled to Tom's deployment in Germany where they lived "off base" in an apartment on the third floor of a house up on a hill just outside of Hamburg Germany. The locals were still weary of Americans as this was just 10 years after WWII. Despite this, Cecile managed to make many friends and enjoyed her time in Germany. Cecile and Tom welcomed their first child, a son while still in germany. After they returned home Tom went to work in Boston and Cece stayed at home in an apartment in Chelsea MA taking care of John. Before too long, Karin and Eric were born and they needed a bigger place. They moved to the newly built suburbs in a little town named Stoughton. They lived in a house on Kwedar Ave. and had 3 more children. Cece spent many years raising the 6 children. There were many good times in Stoughton. After their children grew up Cecile and Tom moved to Brookline and then Boston where they enjoyed City living for many years. During those years Cecile worked many fulfilling jobs including Boston University Health Policy Institute, Boston College and Blue Hill Country Club. Tom passed in July 2022 and Cecile had to adjust to living without him after a 65 year marriage. Cecile moved into Chestnut Park assisted living Community where she met many new friends but missed her husband terribly and never really got over losing him. We have faith that Tom and Cecile will spend eternity together.
