HOLLIS- Barry “Pip” Stone Sr passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center in Portland on February 16, 2025 with his family by his side.
He was born in Saco, Maine on August 2, 1954, to John and Alice (Hodgkins) Stone.
He attended Hollis Elementary School and Bonny Eagle High School.
He spent many years racing at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, driving the #35 in the Limited Sportsman class, winning Rookie of the year and a Season Championship. He was a volunteer for the Hollis Center Fire Department for 25-30 years.
He worked for Reynolds Sportscenter and later RJ Grondin for 20+ years.
After retirement, he went on to drive the “Red Beeba Bus”, delivering and retrieving his pride and joy grandchildren to and from the bus stop.
He enjoyed playing softball, deer hunting, bass fishing, attending his children’s and later his grandchildren’s sporting events. Some of his favorite activities were watching the Patriots, Red Sox, and Nascar, playing cards and cornhole, and spending time with his family.
In the summer he was on the riding lawn mower, and in the winter he was behind the snow plow. Whether it was snow or shine, he loved being outside, sporting a better tan than his entire family.
He is predeceased by his parents, John “Stoney” and Alice.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sylvia; his brother Kenny of Hollis and brother Bo and wife Heather of Lee; his Son Barry Jr and wife Tina, his daughter Holly and her significant other Brian, his daughter Crystal and her husband Chris, all of Hollis. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Caleb, Tyler, Alysse, Riley, Sydney and Zoe.
At his request, there will be no funeral services. A private family gathering will take place in the warmer months.
