Obituary

Worcester: Candace (Hickcox) Allen, 87, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025 in Knollwood Nursing Center. She leaves her husband of 64 years, Owen F. Allen; a daughter Deborah Allen of Chelmsford; 2 sons- Scott Allen of Johnston, RI and Eric Allen of Duanesburg,NY; 3 grandchildren; and a sister-in-law.

Candace, known as Candy to almost everyone, was born in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late Howard and Marjorie (Millard) Hickcox. She graduated from Central CT State University with a Bachelors Degree in Education. Unsure that she was ready to embark on a career in elementary education, she enrolled in the MRE program at Drew University in Madison, NJ where she met a last year student in the Theological School. They married in 1960 and embarked on a life together in which she devoted herself over the years to homemaking, raising her children, teaching Sunday School and serving capably as Church School Superintendent at Methodist churches in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, Clarence, NY, Dover-Foxcroft, ME, Bangor, ME, and Boyertown, PA. Candy was also an avid doll collector of all types and sizes, enjoyed scrapbooking both with friends and alone and played the piano for pleasure and as accompanist on occasion.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 4:30 p.m. in Epworth United Methodist Church 64 Salisbury St. Worcester, MA 01609. There are no calling hours. Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements.
