Mrs. Olive V. 'Ollie' (Amerena) McGinnis, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late Paul S, McGinnis, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, February 15, 2025. She was 97 years old.
Born in East Boston, MA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Shea) Amerena and sister of the late Joseph D. Amerena. Olive (Ollie) was a graduate of Medford High School and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Although a devoted Catholic, Ollie had an open and inquisitive spirit and was fascinated with the ancient past traveling extensively to and through the ruins of ancient Egypt, the ancient ruins of Israel, the ancient ruins of Italy, and the ancient ruins of Chichin Itza. Her final adventure to the ancient ruins of Machu Pichu, the Nascar Lines, and Easter Island remained, unfortunately, unfulfilled.
Rest assured, The History Channel would be on the TV.
Ollie also spent many winters with her son in Hawaii.
Ollie is survived by her loving sons; Stephen McGinnis of Wakefield, MA, Mark McGinnis and his wife Karen of Londonderry, NH and Dean McGinnis of Medford, MA, her sisters; Mary Barnes of Medford, MA and Charlotte Reilly of Meriden, CT., as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Friday, February 21, 2025. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 9 to 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 514 High Street, Medford at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove cemetery in Medford.
