Obituary

Steven Russell Shannon of Ventura, Ca, passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 77, while cycling along the ocean in Carpinteria, CA. Steven was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 26, 1947 and grew up in Johnstown, PA. He was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan!

Steve attended Westmont HS, class of ‘65 and received a degree in electrical engineering at Ohio University in 1969. Steve was a proud member of The Phi Gamma Delta fraternity (Fiji) and remained active with his fraternity brothers until his death. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was very proud that his ancestor had assisted George Washington by lending his farm, (the Ring Farm), in Brandywine to serve as headquarters. Steve often said he was still looking for the deed.

Steve was a member of the Navy league. He received a number of awards and patents in engineering. Steve worked for the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory his entire career retiring from the submarines he loved in 2010.

Steve is survived by his wife, Nancy Brown Connolly, daughter Laurel Shannon Mocklar, Son-in-law Michael Mocklar (Marietta, GA); stepsons Christopher M. Connolly (Ventura, CA), Eric M. Connolly and Maggie Cameron Connolly (Paso Robles, CA); stepdaughter Tara K. Connolly (Des Moines, IA); granddaughters Ana and Zoe Mocklar, Jacolyn Carfrae, Piper and Lucy Connolly; grandsons Michael Carfrae and Alexander Connolly; brother Mark Shannon and sister-in-law Susie Shannon (Boulder, CO); sisters Margaret (Peggy) Shannon (Walnutport, PA) and Martha Shannon (Walnutport, PA); brothers-in-law Randy Vitch and James Fikes (Walnutport, PA); nieces Effie Shannon (Boulder, CO) and Shana Ross Gardner (Austen, TX); nephew Caleb Shannon (Boulder, CO).

Steve was preceded in death by his son Todd Russell Shannon and parents, Rodman Russell Shannon, and Eleanor Ruth Christner, and sister Donna Christine Shannon.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Ventura County Rescue Mission Alliance vcrescuemission.org and Catholic Relief Services crs.org .

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to family and friends for their love and support. Steve was a warm loving, happy and well-loved husband, father, and PapPap!

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass to be held at Our Lady Of Assumption Church, Telegraph Road, Ventura on Tuesday, March 18 at 12:30PM.
