Lawanda Waters Westberry, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, February 13, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 4 PM, Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Evergreen Cemetery, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Donnie Wright and the Rev. Edwin Allen Peacock, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Westberry was born June 24, 1946, in Bacon County, Georgia, to the late Grady Cecil and Juanita Holton Waters. She graduated with honors from Bacon County High School and earned her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education with honors. She later earned her Masters in Reading with honors from Georgia Southwestern University in Americus. She taught at Ben Hill Primary School for twenty-nine years. Mrs. Westberry loved to fish, camp, and visit the beach at Fernandina. She was a wonderful cook and baked delicious cakes. She and her husband were founders of Faith Baptist Church where they organized the bus ministry and led music worship. Mrs. Westberry also played the piano and taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Lawanda Peacock and Ramon of Broxton; two grandsons: Russell Ramon Peacock, II and Lila Rose and Andrew-Allen Peacock and Leann Marie; a brother, Grady Clifford “G.C.” Waters of Waycross; a sister, Marine Waters “Tiny” Thomas of Alma; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew C. Westberry, II; a sister, Laverne “Susie” Gay; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Kelley Waters; and brothers-in-law: Bobby Gay and Jerome Thomas.
