Obituary

Lucienne P. Croteau, 98, of Woonsocket died Thursday February 13, 2025 at Landmark Medical Center. She was the loving wife of the late Albert W. Croteau. Lucienne and Albert were married on October 6, 1946. They shared over 53 wonderful years mutually devoted to each other until his passing in 1999. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on October 6, 1996.
A lifelong Woonsocket resident she was a daughter of the late Emile and Justine (Lambaer) Platiau. Coincidently Lucienne shared a birthday with Queen Elizabeth, II as they both were born on April 21, 1926!
Lucienne was a graduate of Woonsocket High School with the class of 1944. She went on to attend Hill Business College and worked at the Bell Company for a number of years.
Lucienne was among the founding members of St. Agatha’s Parish since its inception in 1953 and her service to her parish continued for seven decades. St. Agatha’s was Lucienne’s second home as she volunteered for numerous parish ministries and activities. She served as the parish secretary for many years before retiring in 1984. She organized the first Girl Scout troop in 1960 leading the group for 10 years. She was the president of the Ladies Guild in 1966 and 1976 and was the chair of the Christmas bazaar. She participated in music ministry by singing with the parish choir for over 20 years. Lucienne was the recipient of the Fr. Durocher award in 1983 and the St. Agatha Parish 40th Anniversary service award at the 1993 Christmas bazaar.
Lucienne was a longtime member of the St. Agatha senior citizens club and served as treasurer. She was a member of the Cumberland and Lincoln Community and Yuletide caroler’s choir. Lucienne was a member of the “Zazzy Red Hatters” of the Red Hat Society. Together with her husband she took many memorable trips being able to boast of visiting all 50 states and many counties in Europe and Asia.
Lucienne was a talented artist expressing her creativity through oil painting. She liked to socialize and connect with people. On the surface Lucienne was known for her trademark “tell-it-like-it-is” way about her, indeed she did not suffer fools lightly and woe to anyone who tried her patience! Underneath her no-nonsense persona she truly was a lady who was caring and concerned for others including physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Lucienne is survived by her daughter Louise St. Jean and her husband Gary of Smithfield. She was the mother of the late Roger H. Croteau and the late Jeanne Benoit and sister of the late Emile Platiau, Jr., Emelinne Lapierre, Irene Mayer and Annette Beaulieu. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Her funeral will be Thursday February 20, 2025 from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Agatha’s Church. Lucienne will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Albert. Visiting hours are Thursday morning from 9:00-10:30am, prior to Mass, at Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers and in recognition of her lifetime of service to church, memorial donations may be made to St. Agatha parish 34 Joffre St. Woonsocket, RI. 02895.
