CHICOPEE – Steven E. Ross, 63, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, February 7, 2025. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on October 17, 1961, a beloved son of the late William and Cecile (Langlois) Ross. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke High School, and moved to Chicopee in 1988 where he lived the remainder of his life. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1981 and was discharged on April 3, 2009 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He served during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, the Persian Gulf, and also served in support of Operation Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Expeditionary Medal, the NCO Professional Military Ribbon, the Air Force Training Ribbon, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Kuwait Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. He stayed in the Air Force as a Hydraulic Mechanic for many years and following a tragic accident which left him as a paraplegic, he continued working as an aircraft scheduler until his retirement on October 17, 2021 after almost 41 years of service for his country. Steven enjoyed playing sports, was an avid golfer and played in the adult softball league at Westover. He loved to try his luck at MGM Casino in Springfield as well as cheer on the Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and the Miami Dolphins. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his three loving and devoted daughters, Amber M. Ross and her wife, Emily, of Westfield, Taylor A. Bottaro and her husband, Dante, and Tori L. Ross, all of Chicopee; his cherished granddaughter, Clover Bottaro; his former wife and best friend, Kimberly A. Caisse of Chicopee; his five siblings, Sandra Tardy of West Springfield, Sharon Riley and her husband, Russell, of Agawam, Cynthia Ross of Enfield, CT, Kevin Ross of Chicopee, and Nancy Santinello and her husband, Tim, of West Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members. He will be deeply missed by his faithful canine companions and best friends, his dogs, Tuukka and Looch. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Richard “Richie” Ross. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
