Irene (Vasconcelos) Silva, 84, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away after a period of declining health at Lowell General Hospital peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, February 10. She was the beloved wife of Serafim Silva with whom she shared the past 65 years of marriage.
She was born on February, 16, 1940 in Cinfaes, Portugal. At a young age, her father found a new career and the family relocated to Angola in Southern Africa. While living in Angola, she met the love of her life and future husband, Serafim. Her family then relocated to the United States, settling Lowell in 1974 where they raised their family and she lived for the rest of her life.
Irene worked with Joan Fabrics for over 27 years as a quality control inspector before her retirement in 2002. She was a longtime devoted communicant of Saint Anthony Church and was a member of the Holy Ghost Society. She loved to crochet and loved to cook. Visiting family in Portugal, cruising the Caribbean, or roadtripping to Florida were among her favorite traveling destinations. She loved spending time with family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her devoted husband, Serafim, she is also survived by their 2 daughters, Fernanda DaSilva Lopes and Anabel DaSilva, her grandson Samuel Lopes and his girlfriend, Kelsey Harrigan, all of Lowell.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr Sirakov. We will remember your kindness, support, and compassionate care during Irene’s illness.
