Obituary

Emily duBois Lyon
February 10, 1980 – February 9, 2025
With profound sorrow and broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Emily duBois Lyon on February 9, 2025, at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, California. Just one day shy of her 45th birthday, Emily left this world far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Born on February 10, 1980, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Emily was a bright and determined spirit from the very start. She grew up with a deep love for animals, especially her dogs and cats, and became a highly accomplished member of the livestock community through 4-H and FFA. Her passion for agriculture led her to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where she earned a B.S. in Agricultural Business.
Emily’s professional career took her through roles at Farm Supply, the California Mid-State Fair, Pacific Beverage, and Tapit Brewing Company. But her most cherished and important role was that of a homemaker and mother, a job she embraced with unmatched passion, dedication, and love. Nothing brought her greater joy than raising her children and building a warm, loving home with her husband.
Emily married the love of her life, Jeff Lyon, on April 30, 2011, in Ojai, California. They were not just husband and wife but best friends—strongest when together, happiest when surrounded by their children. Their love was built on mutual devotion, partnership, and the simple joy of raising a family side by side.
Emily was a dedicated and passionate mother to her four children: Parker (13), Katie (10), Reese (8), and Bode (5). Her world revolved around them. If her children or husband were into something, she was into it too—fully engaged, always present, and always putting their needs ahead of her own. She dedicated herself to making their lives as full of love, joy, and support as possible. If there was a way to make her home warmer, more welcoming, and more full of love, she was doing it.
Emily had a vibrant and uplifting presence—she loved to socialize, laugh, and bring people together. Whether at family gatherings or among friends new and old, she had a gift for lightening the mood and making people feel welcome. Her love for decorating, especially during Christmas, was unmatched. She absolutely LOVED Christmas trees, and her home became a magical, festive reflection of her warmth and joy.
Emily was deeply involved in her community and faith. She was a devoted member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, where she found strength and joy in her faith. She also loved Heritage Christian School, greatly appreciating the faculty and feeling deeply thankful that her children could attend such a wonderful school. Emily had a true gift for bringing people together—she loved hosting friends and family, always opening her home with warmth and generosity. She especially cherished kid’s playdates and sleepovers, making sure every child who entered her home felt welcome, loved, and part of the family.
Emily leaves behind her devoted husband, Jeff Lyon, and their four beautiful children. She is also survived by her loving parents, Tana Burgess, Doug Burgess, her sister Jessica O’Farrell, and countless friends and family members who were blessed to know her.
A Funeral Mass to honor Emily’s life will be held with a reception to follow immediately after. Contact family and friends for more information.
Emily’s love, kindness, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She was a remarkable woman—a devoted mother, loving wife, and cherished friend. Though she is gone far too soon, her spirit will remain forever in the lives she shaped and the love she gave so freely.
