Obituary

Peter Gerard McCarthy was born July10, 1946. The fourth of 4 sons (William - deceased, Joseph - deceased and Paul). Born to William and Lillian (Greene) McCarthy. Growing up in Southie, Peter enjoyed many adventures which included selling the daily newspaper, playing youth baseball (nickname Snowshoes) and getting into mischief with the boys. During his high school years, the McCarthy family relocated to Weymouth and Peter left Boston Latin to finish his studies at Weymouth High and continued on to Holy Cross, graduating as a Classics major in 1969. Rumor has it that he started the nude winter olympics behind Wheeler Hall where security asked him for his I.D. at the bottom of the run.

College behind him, Peter's first job was at Billerica which set the stage for a long, happy and fruitful life. At Billerica, Pete taught English at the high school and Marshall Middle School. He was an outstanding teacher who advocated for all his pupils not just those who excelled academically and loved school but also for those who were reluctant students. He had their backs in the classroom and on the sporting fields. He was assistant coach of the New England Girls' Outdoor Track Champions and time keeper at the B.M.H.S. basketball and volleyball games.

While teaching at B.M.H.S. he met the love of his life, Carlotta (Masiello) with whom he shared 51 adventurous years hallmarked by global travel, sport fishing, casino gambling, championing N.E.'s sports teams and involvement in local and state politics (2002 Andover Democrat of the Year).

Peter continued his active, full life after retirement. Never stopping to take a breath until abruptly death stopped him. After a brief battle with cancer, Peter died on February 10 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. He is survived by his wife Carlotta, brother Paul and his wife Patricia (Walsh), brother-in-law Anthony Masiello, and special niece Gina Osborne and many more well loved nieces and nephews who cherished the memory of a man whose life was well lived.

At Peter's request all funeral services will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home of Andover. For additional information, please visit, www.burkemagliozzi.com.
