Obituary

John C. Corey passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025 at the age of 66, surrounded by the comfort and love of his family. He was born on March 10, 1958 and spent most of his life in Roslindale, MA.

John will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his hearty, boisterous laugh which ignited smiles on the faces of everyone who heard it. His genuine naivety on the complexities of life made you fall in love with his sincerity. He had profound gratitude for the little things and would do anything for the people he loved or a friend he’d just met. He’d give you his coat if you were cold or a dollar if it were his last. His kindness was limitless and his generosity knew no bounds.

Of all the things he loved in life, he loved his family most. He found endless solace in his twin brother Daniel. Daniel was his lifetime confidant and a never-ending source of strength and unconditional love. “Twin brothers are two souls cut from the same cloth, forever intertwined”.

John also had a lifelong love of hockey, cooking, rock music and found the most comfort in a home cooked meal. You could say he was a “jack-of-all-trades” however, he spent most of his working years swinging a hammer on a rooftop.
John’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

John was a beloved father to Mary Eileen Chmura. Son to the late Michael Corey and Mary White Corey of Roslindale, step son to the late Thomasina Corey of Hanover. Brother to Daniel Corey Sr. and wife Donna Corey of Walpole, the late Eileen Corey Ney of Roslindale, the late Michael Corey Jr. of Roslindale, Sally Corey and husband Kenny Devlin of West Roxbury. Proud Uncle of Christine Roy and husband Stephen Roy of Hyde Park, Daniel Corey Jr. and wife Samantha Corey of Roslindale, Chris Corey of Hyde Park, Jeanel Ogilvie and husband Christopher Ogilvie of Walpole and Kaitlin Barrett of Walpole. John is also survived by great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who loved him.

John was preceded in death by his lifelong friend and devoted mother to his daughter, Mary Chmura.

He will be missed dearly by his faithful friend and prior spouse Cecelia Oneke Otang.

Visiting hours for John will be held at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St. West Roxbury on Saturday, February 15th from 1pm-5pm with a prayer service at 4:30pm.
