Obituary

Dr. James Morris “Jimmy” Cargle, 72, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta surrounded by his family. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025, in the Worship Center of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. A eulogy will be given by Keith Burnett. Rev. Cargle will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Cargle will be placed in the Worship Center one hour prior to the service.

Rev. Cargle’s sons and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Born September 10, 1952, in Summerville, Georgia, Rev. Cargle was the son of the late Velma Jane Wooten Cargle and the Rev. James Harold Cargle. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1973; and received his Master of Theology and his Doctorate of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a minister at various churches for 45 years, the last pastorate being at Wayside Baptist Church in Tifton. He was also an Ag teacher at Tift County High School.

Rev. Cargle is survived by his wife, Beth Pate Cargle of Tifton; his children and their spouses, Casey and Barry Sanders of Huntsville, Alabama, Corey and Jenn Cargle and Adam and Lacy Cargle, all of Tifton and Ross and Chelsey Cargle of Forsyth; one sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Bob Walker of Brookfield; nine grandchildren, Jackson Sanders, Nathan Sanders, Madeline Sanders, Madison Cargle, Logan Cargle, Emma Cargle, Ella Cargle, Asa Cargle and Audra Claire Cargle; a niece and her husband, Beverly and Josh Walker of Tifton; and a nephew and his wife, Blake and Jordan Walker of Smyrna.
