Obituary

Henry J. Daigle, 76, of New Bedford died August 29, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Alice M. (Babineau) Daigle; they would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on September 5th, 2002. Mr. Daigle was affectionately known as "Pepere" and "Santa".

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Andrew and Marguerite (Henri) Daigle, he lived in Fairhaven and New Bedford for all of his life.

He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, where he was a member of the St. Vincent dePaul Society. He was a former communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

Mr. Daigle was a master plumber who owned and operated Daigle Plumbing and Heating Company for many years. The business was left to his sons. Daigle Plumbing and Heating is now owned and operated by his son Gerald. He had also been the assistant plumbing and gas inspector for the town of Acushnet for several years.

Mr. Daigle was a member of the former Greater New Bedford Master Plumbers Association and served in the Massachusetts State Guard. He was in the plumbing and heating trade for well over 50 years.

He enjoyed playing Santa Clause for over 50 years, brightening many childrens Christmas. He was a man known to have unconditional love and his family and friends loved him.Mr. Daigle played football with the Blue Devils at the Livsey Club in Fairhaven many years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Alice M. (Babineau) Daigle of New Bedford; 3 sons, Gerald Daigle and his wife Linda of Fairhaven, Peter Daigle of Acushnet; and Henry E. Daigle of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Pauline Martin and Joyce Davidopoulos, and her husband Peter, all of New Bedford; a brother, Andrew Daigle of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Rosetta Daigle and Anita Normandin, both of New Bedford; 15 grandchildren, Michael, Ronald, Chad, Kerry, Sonia, Sophia, Tommy, Mikey, Allison, Gerry, Joshua, Andrew, Nickalus, Alexander, and Zafira; 11 great-grandchildren, Jillian, Trey, Tylor, Katelynn, Ronald, Jr., Kyle, Michael, Jr., Jordan, Adam, Anthony and Jayda; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was the grandfather of the late Katelyn Ann Daigle and the brother of the late Roger Daigle and Donald Daigle.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordTuesday, September 3rd at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Monday, September 2nd from 4-8 PM.

Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery.
