Obituary

Julie Hull Armington
January 1, 1940 – February 6, 2025

Julie Hull Armington, 85, of Anderson, passed away peacefully at home on February 6, 2025, surrounded by her two children. Her departure was as graceful as the life she led—a life filled with love, laughter, and an undeniable passion for the game of golf and serving others.

Born on New Year’s Day in 1940 to the late Kenneth J. “Kenny” and Augusta Jane (Laidle) Hull, Julie grew up in Anderson IN. She graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1958 before pursuing her education at Purdue University and later Ball State University, where she earned degrees in Education and Science.

Julie had an enriching career as an Insurance Casualty Adjuster with Meridian and Indiana Insurance Companies, and also as a highly respected real estate broker with several firms, finishing her career with FC Tucker Realty. Her dedication to her community was evident in her 25 years of service on the Edgewood Town Council, where she also served as building commissioner.

But if you knew Julie, you knew that her true passion was golf. From the moment she picked up a club at the age of nine, it was clear she was born for the sport. By thirteen, she had already won her first Madison County Junior Girls Golf Tournament, a victory that would be the first of many. Julie's achievements on the course were remarkable—Indiana Women’s State Amateur Champion three times, a seven-time participant in the USGA Amateur, and a quarterfinalist in the Women’s Western Amateur, among countless other accolades. She played with grace, determination, and a fierce competitive spirit, setting records and making history along the way. Her love of the game wasn’t just about winning—she dedicated herself to growing the sport, serving on numerous boards, and co-founding organizations that encouraged young women to take up golf. Her induction into the Indiana Golf Hall of Fame in 1994 was a testament to her legacy, not just as a champion, but as an advocate for the game.

Julie was more than her golfing achievements. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Whether it was cheering on her kids and grandkids in their own athletic pursuits and music or dressing in head-to-toe team colors for an Indiana Colts, Pacers, or Fever game, Julie’s love for sport and competition formed a lasting bond among her family. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate life’s little moments—whether it was a birdie on the course, a grandchild’s achievement in their sport or music, spending time with friends, or simply feeding the birds outside her window. To her five grandchildren, she was affectionately known as "DoDo," a nickname that came with endless hugs, encouragement, and unwavering love.

Julie’s kindness, wisdom, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. She leaves behind her children, Tim Armington and Sarah Armington, both of Anderson; her five beloved grandchildren, Henry Ko, Liam Ko, Addie Ko, Michael Armington, and Jane Armington; her sister, Jeanie Clem of Plainfield; and her loyal canine companion, Bethel. She is now reunited in peace with her parents, her sister Emily Hull, and her former husband, Michael Armington.
Her life was a story of passion, perseverance, and love—may we all strive to live with the same enthusiasm she did, always ready for the next challenge, the next adventure, and the next round.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Grovelawn Cemetery, 100 West State Street, Pendleton, IN.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Indiana Junior Golf Association, 9795 Crosspoint Blvd., Suite 170, Indianapolis, IN 46256, to continue Julie’s lifelong mission of supporting young golfers.
