Obituary

CHICOPEE – Robert F. “Bob” Barnes, 75, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. He passed into Eternal Life at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on May 21, 1949, a beloved son of the late Falcoln E. Barnes, Jr. and Shirley I. (Day) Fox. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School, Class of 1968, and lived in the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee for most of his life. He served in the United States Army National Guard. He was employed for many years at Hercules Chemical, Inc. in Chicopee. He was a communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and currently was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church, both in Chicopee. The most important thing in his life was spending time with his family, most of all, attending every possible activity with his grandchildren. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Nancy D. (Giguere) Barnes. They were married on June 14, 1969 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and they were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving and devoted children, Jason R. Barnes of Easthampton, Amanda R. Barnes and her partner, David Provost, of Chicopee, and Katrina S. Barnes and her partner, Vincent P. Calvanese, Jr., of South Hadley; his four cherished grandchildren, Hannah Provost, Shane Provost, Vincent Calvanese III, and Liliana Calvanese; his two dear brothers, Kenneth Barnes and his wife, Marianne, of Homosossa, FL, and Charles Barnes and his wife, Sandra, of Chicopee; his dear sister, Catherine Kagan of Leicester; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends on Monday, February 10, 2025 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
