Obituary

Katherine M. (Hall) Maher, 95, of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully at the Blaire House of Tewksbury after a long and well-lived life . She was the beloved wife of the late Robert F. Maher, who passed in 2002.

Kay was born and raised in Jamaica Plain, Katherine was educated there before settling in Tewksbury in 1962, where she became a devoted member of the community. A longtime communicant of St. Dorothy’s Church in Wilmington, her faith was a cornerstone of her life.

Kay's impact on the Tewksbury Senior Center was immeasurable. It was her second home, and she played a fundamental role in shaping its activities. As a dedicated member and former president of the Council on Aging, she was instrumental in bringing Bingo, Whist, and Cribbage to the center, ensuring that seniors had a vibrant place to gather and connect. She also served as clerk of the Friends of the Elderly and was a longtime member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club. Additionally, she was active in the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge #2170, where she was a proud member of the Emblem Club.

Known for her kindness and willingness to help others, Katherine was a gentle soul who never hesitated to lend a hand. Whether it was organizing events, volunteering, or sharing her famous baked goods—especially her cakes, cookies, and muffins—she enriched the lives of those around her.

In her younger years, she worked for Jordan Marsh in Boston and W.T. Grant Company before dedicating herself to family and community.

Katherine is survived by her loving son, Michael Maher, and his wife, Marlene, of Wilmington; her cherished grandson, Alexander Rooney-Maher, and his wife, Natalie, of Derry, NH; and her dear niece, Patty Sanzaro, and her husband, David. She was predeceased by her brother, Joe Hall.

Her family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her dear friend, Ginny Desmond, for her love and support throughout the years.?

You are welcome to attend her visitation on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 9 am until 12 Noon at the Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey St, Tewksbury, MA 01876.  Her funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 12 Noon, followed by procession to the Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her memory to the Friends of the Elderly, 175 Chandler St, Tewksbury, MA 01876.
