Billy J. “Bill” Cobb, Jr., 70, died Monday, February 3, 2025, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Friday, February 7, 2025, at Christian Fellowship in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Hallock Martin and the Rev. Dr. Jeff Pangle officiating. His brother, Allen Martin, Jr. will give the eulogy and his children will share memories as well. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends from 5-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home chapel in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Cobb was born July 12, 1954, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to Frances Davis Roberts and the late Billy Jerome Cobb, Sr. He was a 1972 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. He began a career as one of the youngest store managers for Harvey’s, managing stores in Albany, Valdosta and Nashville. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, being stationed in Germany. He returned to Fitzgerald to manage the Fitzgerald Country Club in 1991. In 2001, he became co-owner & operator of Nabila’s Garden Restaurant in downtown Fitzgerald and ran this establishment with Nabila for 24 years. He enjoyed fishing and hanging out with his family. Eating was a favorite pastime, and his favorite title was Papa. Bill always had a smile and a joke, mostly appropriate, and will be greatly missed by his many friends and customers that he and Nabila considered family.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Nabila Covington of Fitzgerald; children: Melissa Cobb & Matt Johns of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Amal Lamb & Junior of Lake Park, and Luther Covington & Carmon of Ocilla; grandchildren: KC, Isabella, Cason, Isabel & Kyle, Rebecca & Blake, Ali, Cole, Wyatt, Garrett & Denise, James Allen & Taylor, and Morgan & Nathan; great-grandchildren: Tatum, Hayes and Elijah; his mother, Frances Roberts of Fitzgerald; siblings: Larry Cobb & Debbie of Fitzgerald, Anne Jordan & Cam of Fitzgerald, John Cobb of Alpharetta, Susie Davis & Kevin of Hiram, and Allen Martin, Jr. & Laura of Acworth; along with many nieces and nephews that he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his father and step-fathers: Billy J. Cobb, Sr., Carl Martin, Sr., and Tillman Roberts; and an infant brother, David Brooks Cobb.
