Obituary

Raymond Michael Guy, 87

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Raymond Michael Guy, born on July 21, 1937 in Manchester, England, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025 at his home in Mansfield, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Cecil Victor Guy and Annie Frances (Toohey) Guy.

Raymond was the beloved husband of Jane Hamilburg-Guy and a devoted father to Phyllis Ann Guy, Victoria Rae Guy, Dana Liane Guy, and Jessie Patricia Guy. He was a cherished grandfather to Talon Ray Guy. As the sixth of eight siblings, he is survived by his brothers William P. Guy and Brian Guy of Manchester, England, and his sisters Sheila Parkinson and Brenda Foster of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Raymond attended Bishop Bilsborrow Memorial Catholic School in Manchester, England. Years later, he worked as a hurdling jockey at the Fitzroy House a thoroughbred stable in Newmarket, England, and then served in the British Army in the regimental police as a dog handler for two years. After discharge from the army, Raymond worked several restaurant jobs and for John Duffy's racing stable in Dorset. He moved to the Unites States in February, 1971, sponsored by his sister Margaret Fraser and her husband Ed Fraser, working for Ed in his land development business. Raymond's passion for horses led him to return to training and grooming Morgan Horses at Rapidan River Farm in Lignum, Virginia, where he worked until 1973. While living in Virginia, he found employment at Verulam Farm, a thoroughbred racing stable in Charlottesville, VA, and met his wife Jane while living at a neighboring farm in Ivy, VA, the home of Jane's cousin Iris and her husband Robert Carter. Raymond and Jane married in Charlottesville, VA on June 26th, 1974, and continued to live and work there until the Fall of 1977, when they moved to MA to be closer to Jane's family. Together, they settled in MA and founded Alladan Kennels in November of 1978, a business dedicated to caring for canine and feline family members—a lifelong passion that Raymond and Jane pursued for over four decades.

Beyond his work with animals, Raymond was committed to philanthropy. He actively raised donations for the Mansfield Animal Shelter and for the "Our Daily Bread" food pantry in Mansfield, MA, understanding the importance of giving back after experiencing the hardships of growing up in England during World War II.

A celebration of Raymond’s life will be announced at a later date. Remembrances and condolences may be shared online through the Sherman Jackson Funeral Home in Mansfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mansfield Animal Shelter, to the "Our Daily Bread" food pantry in Mansfield, or to a charity of choice.
