Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Muriel E. (McNeill) Burke announces her passing on January 31, 2025, at Copley at Stoughton, surrounded by her loving children.

Muriel, age 90, formerly of Easton and Brockton, was the beloved wife of the late Ulick John Burke for 56 years. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the youngest child of the late John M. McNeill, a member of the Brockton Fire Department killed in the Strand Theatre Fire, and Anna L. (Reilly) McNeill.

Muriel was a graduate of Brockton High School and the Shepard-Gill School of Practical Nursing of Massachusetts General Hospital. She worked at the Good Samaritan Medical Center as a medical surgical nurse from the first days of opening (Cardinal Cushing Hospital) until her retirement in 1995.

Muriel was a woman of great faith and a compassionate caretaker who was devoted to her family. She was a supporter of our military service and for several years was involved with the Brockton VA Medical Center. Muriel had a great wit about her and was a wonderful hostess who also enjoyed shopping, traveling, good music, knitting and crocheting (especially for those in need). She was a member of the 20th Century Catholic Women’s Club, the Swedish Embroidery group at the Easton Senior Center, and an active member of the YMCA.

Muriel is survived by her children Barbara Anne Burke (Robert Storck), U. John Burke, Jr. (Jay Sook), and Patricia Burke; her grandchildren Ashley Mahr (David), Meaghan Drugan, John Patrick Drugan (Jessica), Sean Parker, Thomas Parker, Taylor Burke; great grandchildren Parker Mahr and Riley Mahr and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Mary Louise Duggan, John J. McNeill, Barbara A. Amirault, and Robert J. McNeill.
