BELMONT ---- Martha Linda Smith, 75, of Brown Hill Road, Belmont passed away in her home, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Parkinson’s, on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Martha was born on February 11, 1949, in Laconia, the daughter of Roland Hamel and Josephine (Gardner) Stockwell.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, bowling, dancing, painting, swimming, photography and spending time with her family. Those that were lucky to know and love Martha knew the pure and kind heart she possessed. Many know the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, a rule that she lived every day.
For many years she managed the Belmont Village Store where she was loved by many. She continued her career at New Hampshire Ball Bearing, where she retired in 2017.
Martha is survived by her son Matthew Smith and wife Sherri, daughters Natalie Weeks and husband Marcus, Malinda Laflam and husband William, and Lesley Wells and husband Fred, grandchildren Joslyn White and husband Mike, Paige Laflam, Rachael Weeks, Brian Weeks and wife Logan, Emily Laflam, Ryann Wells and partner Patrick Boswell, and Nathan Wells. Along with four great-grandchildren, brothers Robert Hamel and wife Ginny and Stephen Hamel, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Martha is predeceased by her beloved husband Nathan R. Smith, and her sister-in-law Kathleen Hamel, as well as her loving grandparents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Gardner Cove in Gilmanton.
