Obituary

Stefan Alexander Mendes-Monteiro, Airman, First Class, United States Air Force, of Haverhill, formerly a longtime Tewksbury, MA resident passed away in a tragic car accident on his thirty-third birthday, January 27, 2025. 

Born on January 27, 1992, in Boston, Stefan was the son of Susana (Mendes) Monteiro and Joe Monteiro. He was raised and educated in Medford, MA until age of 10 when the family then moved to Tewksbury, MA where he continued his education and was a graduate of Tewksbury Memorial High School with the Class of 2011. Stefan was a renowned athlete. He was a lifelong soccer star and even traveled with his father to Denmark, England & Sweden to play at a young age. Stefan was named to the Tewksbury Town Crier’s all decade soccer team. He also participated in track and field, excelling in the high jump. His athletic prowess earned him a scholarship to college where he studied business at Nichols College in Dudley, MA and Dean College in Franklin, MA. Throughout his life, Stefan was a standout bartender amongst various establishments, well loved by coworkers and patrons alike.

In May of 2024, Stefan enlisted in the United States Air Force where he became a Cyber Defense Operator. Stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas he made an immediate positive impact on his peers and leadership. Stefan developed many relationships and was held in high regard amongst his Squadron members. Shortly after completing his military training and academics, he volunteered to assist the Air Force Recruiters Assistance Program in strengthening the military total force. A selfless contribution that speaks volumes toward his character.

Throughout his life, Stef was a gifted athlete and most recently a promising airman on his way to a promising career with the Air Force. He had a one-of-a kind sense of humor and loved making people laugh by imitating funny voices. Stefan loved golfing and snowboarding with the best of his friends. He enjoyed playing Xbox late-night whenever he could. Stefan was an avid reader of articles, constantly seeking out news & information and educating himself on a wide variety of topics. He was always ready for a good debate and loved a good conspiracy theory.

In addition to his parents, Susana of Haverhill, and Joe, of Upton, he is survived by his sisters, Tatiana Gould, her husband Richard and two nieces of Parkland, FL, and Leandra Monteiro of Haverhill.

He is also survived by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is also survived by his grandmother, Lourdes Pereira of Portugal.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, the late Angela "Lola" Monteiro and the late Orlando Monteiro.

All are welcome to attend his visitation and funeral service. On Thursday, February 6, his visitation will take place from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury, MA. His funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, February 7, at St. Michael Parish Church, 196 Main Street, North Andover, MA at 10 a.m. Please meet directly at the church if you wish to attend. Following his funeral Mass, full military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force in accordance with his service to our country.
