John Sakellaridis, 62 of Worcester, died Thursday, January 30th in UMass Hospital University Campus. John is survived by his brother, Nicholas Sakellarides and his sister, Nina Karamboulas-Sakellaridou and her husband, Ilias all of Worcester; his two nieces, Kalliopi and Evangelia Karamboulas, his grand-nephew, Elias Garcia, a cousin, Nicholas Stefos and many relatives in Greece.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY the son of Father Emmanuel Sakellarides and Presbytera Kalliopi (Katogiritis) Sakellarides, who were born in Greece and had lived in Worcester for 33 years. John will be remembered for the time he enjoyed with his family and the joy it provided him. He will be remembered for his incredible generosity and thoughtfulness. John often accompanied his father to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral to assist him with his duties as a retired priest. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch of his residence, known for drinking soda, coffee and sparking conversations with those walking the street' he was the kid of the neighborhood. John will also be remembered as a frequent visitor to the Price Chopper on Park Avenue where he made and maintained many connections with all the employees over the years. Another favorite place that John enjoyed was shopping at Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries where he was known to purchase shoes, stuffed animals, belts and wallets. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 5th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street (please go directly to the Cathedral). Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street. His calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 4th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue.
