Robert McCann Dowd, 58, of Londonderry, NH, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, while his loving family sang him some of his favorite songs. He was born on January 5, 1967, in Concord, MA, the MIDDLE of the five children of John Cooke Dowd, Jr. and Maria Caminos-Medina.
Robert and his siblings grew up in locations all over Massachusetts, and his favorite childhood memories are of his time spent living in Magnolia, a village in Gloucester, MA. Robert graduated from Manchester High School in Manchester, MA, and attended Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA.
Robert treasured his extensive collection of comic books and had an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Marvel and superheroes. Unsurprisingly, he began drawing and painting in high school and decided to make that his life’s work. Over the years, he expanded his artistic talents to include graphic design, sculpture, wirecraft, theatrical set building and painting, and calligraphy. As his artistic journey progressed, Robert continuously sought out new ways to express his creativity. He learned to play the piano by ear at an early age, and playing guitar soon followed.
Robert was predeceased by his brother and lifelong best friend, John Cooke Dowd III, his mother, Maria, and his nieces, Nora and Charlotte. He is survived by his father, Edgard Medina, his siblings and their spouses, Rosemarie and John Kelly of Windham, NH, Marguerite and Christopher Monahan of Brighton, MA, and Gerald and Amanda Dowd of Chicago, IL, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews, Thomas Dowd, Meaghan and Devin Kelly, Brian Dowd, Delaine Kelly, Savannah Trudelle, Aidan Monahan, Julia Monahan, Ramona Dowd, and Truman Dowd.
In honor of Robert's artistic spirit and legacy, his family welcomes you to pay it forward by supporting local artists in your community.
