Obituary

EVANS, Edna R. (Kane) peacefully passed away at the age of 95 on Monday, January 27th, 2025 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Predeceased by her former husband, William Evans Sr., and her dear friend, Edward F. Thormahlen.

Devoted mother survived by her daughter, Mary, and predeceased by her children David, Patricia, wife of Richard DeVoe Sr., William Jr., and John, husband of Jennifer (Zablocki) Evans.

While Edna loved shopping, reading, completing word searches, and partaking in social events, she was a true matriarch and her greatest joy was her role as Nana. She is survived by her cherished grandchildren: Carrieann Evans, Richard DeVoe Jr. and wife Jacqueline, Suzanne DeVoe and husband Victor Valles, Allison Evans, Katelyn Evans, and Charlene Evans, along with her treasured great-grandchildren: Sophie Rae, Liam, Eloise, Lorenzo, Lilliana, Damian, and Desmond. Also lovingly survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of South Boston, Edna was a familiar sight on sunny days, often seen enjoying the warmth of the outdoors and sharing a friendly wave with her neighbors. She took great joy in baking a special cake for every family celebration and hosting Sunday family dinners, a tradition she held dear to her heart. She never passed on a cruise or a family trip to Disney, where she created lasting memories with her loved ones. As she grew older, Edna became a cherished resident of Marian Manor, where she made many friends and enjoyed participating in various activities, including bingo and holiday celebrations.

Edna dedicated over 40 years of service as a lunch lady at the James F. Condon School in South Boston, nurturing the spirits of countless children. Edna was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post #6536, the Castle Island Association, and proudly belonged to the South Boston Irish American Society. Her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, February 4th from 4-8 PM at Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 5th at 11 AM at St. Monica Church, 331 Old Colony Avenue, South Boston. Interment services will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, 800 Harvard Street, Mattapan.
