Obituary

Giovanni “John” D'Angelo passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family on Friday, January 24th. He was 84. Born and raised in Orsogna, Italy he was the son of the late Pasquale and Celeste (DiBenedetto) D'Angelo.

The beloved husband of Arlene (Pasquariello) with whom he shared 57 years of marriage, he was a devoted and loving father to Laura D’Angelo and Dr. John P. D’Angelo, both of Medford. He was a dear brother to Lena D’Alleva and her late husband Vincenzo of Medford and Maria DiRico and her husband Domenic of North Reading. Giovanni is also survived by many nieces and nephews and was a dear friend to many.

At 18 years of age, Giovanni left his war-torn village of central Italy and life as a farmer, boarded a boat, and ventured to the United States in search of the American dream. He lived in Boston’s North End before settling in Medford. Giovanni had a natural talent for fixing things and an incredible work ethic. If he wasn’t working on his own home you could find him renovating his children’s homes, caring for his impeccable lawn, or tinkering diligently in his work shop. During the summer months, he could be found at his home on Cape Cod swinging in his hammock or at the neighborhood beach relaxing with friends and family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Sunday, February 2nd from 4 – 8 PM and again on Monday morning February 3rd at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 AM in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden. Services will conclude with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Giovanni’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
