Obituary

CLANCY, Jeanne (Connolly) of Foxboro, Massachusetts, formerly of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, at the age of 99, surrounded by her beloved daughter Maura at the Doolittle Home.

Jeanne was a remarkable woman who brought joy, kindness, generosity, and a sharp sense of humor to everyone around her. Born in Boston and raised in West Roxbury, Jeanne’s life was rich with love, accomplishments, and service to her community.

A graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston, Jeanne majored in Pre-Medical Science, where her academic excellence stood out. She was also an active member of the Emmanuel College Musical Society, reflecting her lifelong love of music. Her professional career was distinguished by her work as a Scientist and Researcher at Harvard Medical School under Dr. Albert Coons. Jeanne made significant contributions to the field of medical science, with her research being published in major medical journals.

Jeanne married Richard Clancy, and together they built a beautiful home and family in West Roxbury with their three children: Maura, Janet, and Anne. Jeanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She and her husband were active in the community through the St. Theresa of Avila Church, where Jeanne sang in the choir for over 65 years, assisted with wedding rehearsals, volunteered, and participated in outreach programs. Jeanne and Richard were also members of the church’s Theatrical Society and enjoyed being part of its many musical programs.

Jeanne was an active member of the Alumni Association at Emmanuel College. She used to drive herself to many of the events and was close with her classmates up until her 90’s.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Maura (Clancy) Griffin, and her husband Stephen of Walpole; her sister, Barbara Waters of Wrentham; her grandchildren: Melissa, Suzanne, Dana, and Hillary Griffin, Joseph, Meredith, and Evan Conway, her great-granddaughter, Gianna Forest and her Son in law Allan Roach. She was predeceased by her husband Richard, her daughters Janet (Clancy) Conway-Padayhag and Anne Clancy, her grandson Richard Conway and her brother Reverend George J. Connolly.

Jeanne will be remembered by many other family members, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family and friends are warmly invited to gather and honor the incredible life of this extraordinary woman who will be deeply missed. Visiting hours at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St. West Roxbury on Friday, January 31st from 3-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Jeanne’s life will be held in St. Theresa of Avila Church, 2078 Centre St. West Roxbury on Saturday, February 1st at 10am.
