Obituary

HOLYOKE – Marie I. (Plasse) Joly, 85, of Holyoke, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, January 25, 2025. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on December 28, 1939, a beloved daughter of the late Hector and Irene (Racicot) Plasse. She was raised in Wales, graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School and moved to Holyoke in 1960 where she lived for most of her life. She was employed for many years as a machine operator at A.G. Spalding Company in Chicopee. She was a longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. Marie enjoyed working with stained glass and was a wonderful seamstress. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Armand J. Joly, Jr. who was called home on March 1, 2009. They were married at Saint Christopher Church in Brimfield on April 22, 1960 and were blessed with over 48 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving and devoted children, Armand J. Joly III and his life-partner, Theresa L. “Terry” Benoit, of Holyoke, and Ann M. Knight and her husband, Richard “Rick” Knight, of Chicopee; her five cherished grandchildren, John Joly, Alexander Joly and his wife, Ashley, Richard “Ricky” Knight III, Kurtis Knight, and Kayla Drinkwine and her husband, Jesse; her seven cherished great grandchildren, Alyssa, Gabriel, Nathaniel, and Kayden Knight, Katarina Knight, and Aubrey and Charlotte Drinkwine; her dear brother, Ronald J. Plasse and his wife, Lou Ann; her two dear sisters-in-law, Joan Joly of Chicopee and Marylou Joly of South Hadley; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her dear brother, Reverend Eugene J. Plasse who was Called Home on October 13, 2018; and her sister, Elaine A. Plasse who was Called Home on May 27, 2019. Marie’s Funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before Mass. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
