Obituary

Douglas R. Lively September 7, 1965- January 25, 2025

Douglas Lively passed away at home quietly January 25, 2025 surrounded by family. Doug was the beloved husband of Patty (Fusco) of 35 years. Devoted father of Eric and Paige Lively of Whitman. Son of the late Avery Lively and the late Elaine Lively (Elson). Siblings of the late Renee Lively, Sherry Lively, the late Shannon Lively and Richard Lively. He is survived by many loving aunts, uncles cousins, nieces and nephews.

Doug was an excellent Contractor, who could do everything from roofs to detailed carpentry work. Doug took a great deal of pride in his work and it showed. As a contractor, who could do everything from roofs to detailed carpentry work. Doug took a great deal of pride in his work, and it showed. As a hard-working, quality contractor and conscientious carpenter, the testament to his great work, talent and integrity was his repeat customers, while doing business in the area for over 30 years. Doug took a tremendous amount of pride in everything he did, and if it was not exactly as he wanted, he would start over and make it right, his name and reputation meant everything to him as a craftsman. Doug was that man, who believed that if YOU wanted it done right, YOU had better do it. When asked why he didn’t have a partner in business, Doug would often say, “Partners are for dancing”, his word was more than enough.

Doug was always a great friend to the people in his life, greeting everybody with his big smile and unforgettable hardy/ hearty laugh. Whether it was in Cooperstown (baseball tournament), cook-outs, get together, hockey games, on a job or just seeing him out and about ,he was always happy to see you and that big smile showed it. He always had his friend’s and family’s back, he was a guy you could count on and would “give the shirt off his back”. His great sense of humor and his easy, good natured way, made his friendship’s seamless and special.

All that said, Doug’s crowning achievement and greatest source of pride was his wife Patty, his son Eric and his daughter Paige. They were the center of his universe, his joy, his family is what motivated him and provided him the strength to preserve, fight, get up everyday and take care of his family. His love for his family came through in every conversation with him, there was never any doubt that they meant everything to Doug. Whether it was work, watching Eric play sports, or Paige cheer, you could feel how proud he was and how much he adored his children. A big strong guy with a rugged exterior but an undeniable sensitivity and love for his children shone through whenever you were with him. He was after all, a big fan of Little House on the Prairie, further evidence he was a sweet old soul! His family’s happiness and well-being was everything to him.

At Doug’s request there will be no services but instead a Celebration of Life in the future , date to be announced.
