Mary E. (Castles) Bechet passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, at home in the care of her daughters and Tufts Home Hospice. She was 96 years old.
Born and raised in Medford, Mary married Frank, the love of her life, in 1951. She started her family in Hyde Park and then moved to Norwood in 1960. She lived there for 40 years raising her family. Once retired, the snowbirds spent their winters in New Smynra Beach Florida. She lived a lifetime filled with many joys along with challenges. She was blessed with a close family and gained a multitude of dear friends along the way.
Beautiful inside and out, with terrific style, Mary took great pride in her appearance. Creative and talented (Crocheting, crafting, sewing, watercolor painting) always keeping busy with a project or two. She loved entertaining and cooking for everyone. She may be best known for her fudge.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Francis E. Bechet. She was the cherished mother of Francis E. Bechet Jr. and his wife Vicki of Springhill, TN, Kaylene M. Bechet of Norwood, Rene` L. Taylor and her husband Denis A. of Melrose and the late Denise R. Bechet. Mary was the sister of the late Thomas F. Castles Jr. and the late Marguerite (Peggy) DeRosa. She was the treasured Mimi of Jeffrey Clarkin and his wife Stacey of Norwood, Kristy Dillingham and her husband Darren of Norway, ME, Karen Lyford and her husband Ryan of Gorham, ME, Kelly Bechet of Columbia, TN, Craig Bechet and his wife Amanda of Columbia, TN and Denis C. Taylor of Melrose, and precious great Mimi of Colby and Carly Dillingham, Carter Bechet, Kaylene and Thomas Clarkin, Natalie and Andrew Lyford and Kansas White. Mary was adored by all her nieces, nephews and many godchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mary’s life in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford on Monday February 3rd at 11:00am. Visitation and burial are private. The family requests no flowers.
