John Henry Griffin 1942 to 2025
HOLLIS- John Henry Griffin, 82, passed away on Jan. 25, 2025. John was born in Bristol CT. on April 30, 1942, to Leo and Ella (Grass) Griffin.
He was married to Virginia E. (Mchatten) Oct. 1st 1965, son Michael born June 11th 1966 in Germany.
He is survived by his wife Virginia (Ginny) Griffin, son Michael A. and wife Brenda Griffin. Grandchildren Alexandria, Austin John (AJ), and Liam. Great Grandson Griffin O. Bouchard. All of Canaan, NH. His sister Eloise Griffin of Herman, ME. Mother-in-law Mona McHatten and Brother-in-law Donald Mchatten of Mars Hill, ME. And Sister-in-law Beverly Griffin of Florida. As well as several nieces and nephews.
John attended Blaine Grade and Grammar Schools in Blaine, and ACI High School in Mars Hill. He was very active in FFA and graduated in 1960. He attended a 2-year Agricultural program at University of Maine graduating in 1962. He enlisted in the Army in March of 1964. He served 2 years in Germany and 6 months in Fort Hood Texas. He was discharged in March 1967 due to back injury.
He was a potato farmer from 1967 through 1977. He was very active in the Central Aroostook Young Farmers and Aroostook County Farm Bureau Board of Directors (President 2 years) during that time. He spent 4 years in western Pennsylvania working for PA Farm Bureau's Farm Management program doing on the farm record keeping and tax preparation. Started his own Income Tax preparation business in 1977 retiring in 2018.
Moved to Hollis Center, ME. in 1989. Volunteered on Hollis Fire Dept for 15 years and the Limington Fire Dept for 4 years. He served several years on the Hollis Budget Committee. Ran his own HandyMan business 2001-2006. From 1960-2007 he worked at too many trades jobs to list. He will be missed by many.
