FLAGG, James “Jeff” F., of West Roxbury, passed away on January 21, 2025. Beloved husband of Margaret E. (Fermoyle) Flagg. Devoted son of the late James F. Flagg, Sr. and Frances (Motherway). Dear cousin of Sheila Hamilton of NH, and her family, the late Irene Donnelly Clasby and the late Francis Donnelly. Jeff was much appreciated and loved by his cousins the O’Sullivan Clan, Rileys, Kenneys, Daleys, and Conlins. Jeff loved the great community of West Roxbury where he really felt at home with so many wonderful friends. He will be missed by them as well as by our friends in our West Yarmouth beach association and dear friends in Yarmouth and Cotuit.
Jeff was a member of the Charitable Irish Society and the Eire Society of Boston, as well as the Boston-Strasbourg Sister City Association. During Jeff’s 55 years at Boston College, he served as the Director of the Foreign Studies Program, and as both Assistant Chair and Director of Undergraduate Studies of the Romance Language Department. He and his beloved Margaret worked together creating innovative undergraduate French courses for their students. Jeff co-founded the BC French Immersion Program and instituted a multi-level platform for secondary and collegiate French teachers to support one another. He was a beloved member of the Boston College Community. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA, on Thursday, January 30th at 9:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa of Avila Church, 2078 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. Visiting Hours Wednesday, January 29th from 3pm to 7pm in the funeral home. Msgr. Liam Bergin of BC’s Theology Department will conduct a prayer service during the visiting hours on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jeff may be made to The William B.
