MEREDITH ---- Marion Ruth Griscom of Meredith, NH, passed away at the age of 77, on Monday, January 20, 2025, from complications of dementia.
Born on November 22, 1947, in East Orange, NJ, the daughter of George and Louise Griscom, family values and independent thinking were the core of her upbringing.
Marion graduated from Seaholm High School in Birmingham, MI, in 1965. Here she learned to ski and lead an active life that remained at her core.
She graduated from Michigan State University majoring in computer studies when programming was just becoming basic to computer work. Through her 4 years at Michigan State, she asserted her independence by trading her winter term for skiing in Aspen, CO, and taking her courses during the summer term at Michigan State.
After graduation, Marion spent several years living and working in Aspen, CO, then San Francisco, CA, became her home and gave her 3 of her most important life influences; her computer programming work at Crowley Maritime, her friendships, and her son. Having a son, Jacob Griscom, born with Down Syndrome, Marion supported his growth, and loved his lively personality. Jacob was the joy of her life for 12 years. Marion's friends were her support and they remained a part of her life, even when she moved back to her roots on the east coast.
Living in Boston, MA, and working her career culminated at Boston/Mellon Company as a Mainframe System Programmer where she rose to vice president. She spent as much time as she could with her parents and family in New Hampshire and summering on Bear Island. This gave her time to return to her favorite hobbies; skiing, mountain biking, hiking, crafts crocheting, drawing, photo editing and architecture. While working, Marion attended Boston Architectural School learning Architectural CAD finishing with the design of her home in Meredith, NH.
Marion is survived by her three sisters, Elma Vaidya, Virginia (Donald) Nuttall, and Barbara Griscom (Dr. Joseph Pugleasa); three nieces, Tara Vaidya (Richard Ricardi), Rita Vaidya Julia Eskew and Melissa Nuttall (Vernon Wickham); three nephews, Nick Nuttall, and Luciano and Fernando Pugleasa; and five grand-nephews, Krishan and Vishnu Eskew, and Caleb, Ethan and Nathaniel Ricardi.
The family extends their thanks for the care and support from the staff at Golden View and Meredith VNA Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer or Down Syndrome Research.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Bear Island during the summer.
