Obituary

Guy R. Rancourt, 80, of North Smithfield, formerly of Woonsocket, died Tuesday January 21, 2025 at Hope Hospice Care Center in Providence. He was the loving husband of Nancy A. (Pelypec) Rancourt.
Born and raised in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Marias and Cecile (Cloutier) Rancourt. He was a resident of the city for most of his life.
Mr. Rancourt was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served during the Vietnam era in the 1960s and was awarded the National Defense Service medal.
Guy was employed as a mechanic with a specialty on large trucks. He worked for several local companies including Forte Trucking.
Guy lived for several years in Jacksonville, FL before returning to the Woonsocket area.
Guy was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association and the Manville Sportsmen’s Club. He was an avid target shooter and enjoyed participating in activities at the club.
Guy was talented at cooking. As a throwback to an earlier time he learned the art of blacksmithing and gained a deep appreciation for the special pieces he crafted at the forge. It is tough and hot work but something to which Guy took an instant liking.
Guy was a deeply patriotic gentleman and was justly proud of his service to our county in the Navy. As a further testament to his patriotism Guy took it very personally that he was named for an uncle who had served in WWII.
Guy is survived by his wife Nancy of North Smithfield and his stepdaughter Marcella “Marcy” Bouvier and her husband Steven and granddaughter Genevieve Bouvier all of Blackstone. He was the brother of Rachel Corriveau, Yvette Gladu, Helene Bernier, Denise Gervais and the late Paul and Raymond Rancourt and Aline Laramee. Guy is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday January 31st at 11:00 am in St. Antoine Chapel, 10 Rhodes Ave. North Smithfield. Burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Woonsocket Veterans Memorial Museum 78 Earle St. Woonsocket, RI. 02895.
