Cynthia Essex born on February 14, 1937 and raised in Coventry, RI, died on January 7, 2025. She graduated from Coventry High School and the University of RI and later received a master's degree from Boston College. After graduating from college, she became a third-grade teacher at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA with a speciality in mathematics. She advanced to become Supervisor of the Lower School at Perkins in 1964 and later Supervisor of the Junior and Senior High School. At her retirement after more then 50 years of service, she became a Member of the Corporation at Perkins. After retiring she moved from Watertown to Norfolk where she still tutored students in braille. Cynthia enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad with her friends and loved preparing special meals for her family and friends. She is survived by a brother, Myron "Max" Essex, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Essex, nieces Holly Steiger, Carrie Essex, nephew-in-law, Christopher Chenard, a grandnephew, 4 grandnieces, and dear cousins in RI. Cynthia had a fond and particular bond with friends in Iceland and Maine. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
