Ruth E. (Szlemko) Rog, 81, of Westport Point, MA passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer. She was the wife of Dr. Dennis J. Rog and they shared over 45 years together.
Ruth was born in Brownsville, TX on September 28, 1943, the daughter of the late Emile and Eleanor (Manthei) Szlemko of Groton, CT, where Ruth spent her childhood. After living in a variety of locations, she found her special place in Westport, MA where she resided for over 35 years. Ruth was a graduate of American University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Ruth spent her career as a Registered Nurse working in several hospitals in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Ruth was a deeply beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She embodied qualities such as unconditional love, kindness, compassion and unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family, friends, patients and in her volunteer activities. Ruth’s family was the most important aspect of her life, and she cherished each and every moment with them. Ruth was a true intellectual, an avid reader, expert gardener, gourmet cook, and talented interior decorator. She was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her intimately.
Survivors along with her husband include her 4 children: Richard A. Lindgren, Jr. of Richmond, VA, Michael D. Lindgren of Charlottesville, VA, Dana L. Shoup and her husband Carl of Charlottesville, VA and Kristin L. Henningsen and her husband Christian of Charlottesville, VA and Westport Point, MA; her brother: Robert Szlemko of Phoenix, AZ; 10 grandchildren: Richard Lindgren, III, Eric "Chuck" Henningsen, Jack Overstreet, Christopher Lindgren, Katherine "Katie" Lindgren, David Lindgren, Alexa Overstreet, Michelle "Elle" Lindgren, Maximilian "Max" Henningsen and Christian "Chip" Henningsen III. She was the sister of the late Mark Szlemko.
In remembrance of Ruth’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the local charity of their choice.
Private services will take place and she will be laid to rest at Beech Grove Cemetery.
