Obituary

CHICOPEE – Joan (Edwards) Gore, 77, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Home on Monday, January 20, 2025. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on August 14, 1947, a beloved daughter of the late Walter Edwards and Jeannette (LaBonte) Genero. She was raised and educated in South Hadley, and moved to Willimansett in 1970, where she lived for most of her life. She was a longtime Sales Clerk at the J.C. Penney Department Store in Holyoke and retired many years ago. She was a woman of great faith and was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. Joan took a great interest in politics and religion, and was a Third Order of the Franciscans and also served on the Board of Directors for the Bethlehem House of Western Massachusetts. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Milton J. Gore who was Called Home on January 14, 2002. They were married on August 29, 1970 at the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 31 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving and devoted children, William V. Nicholls and his wife, Sharon, of South Hadley, Brian P. Nicholls of Ludlow, and Carlene J. Slowik and her husband, James, of Chicopee; her eight cherished grandchildren, Joshua Nicholls and his wife, Kris, Jeremiah Nicholls, Patrick Nicholls and his wife, Laura, Ashley Perez and her husband, Joey, Tavia Cannizzo, Samantha Bertolasio and her husband, Jay, Shane Slowik and his wife, Alexis, and Devin Slowik; her twelve cherished great grandchildren; her dear brother, Bobby Edwards and his wife, Denise, of Winchester, NH; her dear sister, Debbie Rothus of Holyoke; her dear sister-in-law, Deborah Edwards of Granby; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her dear brother, Francis K. Edwards, and her dear sister, Karen M. Perham. Her Funeral will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 56 Saint Anthony Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
