Winifred Gendron, 69, of Worcester, died on Thursday, January 9th at home. She leaves her husband of 49 years, Alfred Gendron; a daughter, Rebecca Harney and her husband, Matthew of Putnam, CT; a son, Timothy Gendron of Worcester; three brothers, Richard Crompton and his wife, Randy of Rutland, Charles Crompton and his wife, Jill of Derry, NH, and Douglas Crompton and his wife, Laura of Webster; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Thomas Crompton; and a sister, Marilyn Sharron.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Marjorie (Johnson) Crompton. She graduated from South High School, where her curiosity and determination were evident. However, it was in her role as a mother and grandmother that Winifred truly found the greatest joy of her life. Her love for her family was boundless, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to nurturing and supporting her children and grandchildren.
Professionally, Winifred worked at Wells Fargo, where she was valued for her dedication and commitment. Her work at the bank was just one of the many ways she contributed to the lives of others, always bringing her hard work and attention to detail to everything she did.
Beyond her family, Winifred had a wide array of interests that reflected her vibrant personality. She was an avid coin collector, spending hours curating her collection with great care and enthusiasm. Her deep appreciation for nature also led her to develop a love for bird watching, where she found peace in the simple beauty of the world around her, particularly in the sight of cardinals.
Winifred’s love of puzzles, both literal and metaphorical, showcased her sharp mind and her joy in overcoming challenges. Whether solving a puzzle or navigating life’s complexities, she embraced each with a positive attitude, a sense of adventure, and a deep love for the people around her.
Her friends and family will remember her as a passionate and vibrant soul whose presence will be missed deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 27th from 4:00PM until 6:00pm in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
