Obituary

“USRichard J. "Richie" McPherson, a resident of Medford and formerly of Somerville, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was 75 years of age.

Richie was born in Medford on December 8, 1949, a son of the late Alphonsus McPherson and Mary (White) McPherson. He grew up in Somerville and attended Somerville Public Schools and Somerville High School. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on July 11, 1969 and served his country with courage and pride during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on July 14, 1971 with the rank of Private First Class. Richie’s love of flowers were shown around town as he would take care of the Churches of Charlestown and properties in and around the surrounding area. He cherished his granddaughters and loved taking them fishing, to get their nails done, going to musicals, and giving them a few bucks for ice cream.

Richie is the loving father of the late Francis X. "Frankie" McPherson and Richard A. "Richie" McPherson. He is the beloved Grampy of Hailey McPherson, Niamh McPherson, and Phoenix Reardon. He is the dear brother of Francis McPherson and his wife Ellen, and the late Helen DeInnocentis, John, William, Thomas, James, Alphonsus, Joseph, and Robert McPherson, Mary Jane Berry, Ann Giorgio, Patricia White, Joan Grimes, and Margaret O'Neill. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews. He was the beloved friend of Joseph Trant, Brendan and Aline Smith who took amazing care of Richie over the years, and to his granddaughter's mother Aileen Gorman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Richie's Visiting Hours on Monday, January 27, 2025 from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. concluding with his Funeral Service and Military Honors at 7 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial will be private.
