DUDLEY – Sophie Apostol, 88, died Sunday, January 19, 2025 in UMass/Memorial Hospital, Worcester with her son at her side. Her husband of 45 years, Arthur Apostol, died in 2004.
She leaves her beloved son, Alexander Apostol; and 2 grandchildren, Taylor Apostol and her companion David Amado, and Justin Apostol, all of Londonderry, NH; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Bessie Promadas and Tessie Pappas, and by a brother, Louis Stamatelos.
She was born on July 15, 1936 in Lefkada, Greece, a daughter of Frank and Helen (Poulakis) Stamatelos and lived there until moving to the Boston area in 1952. She moved to Dudley when she married in 1959.
Mrs. Apostol worked as a fuser at the former American Optical Company in Southbridge for 25 years before retiring.
She was a member of Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Webster and belonged to the Philoptochos Society. She loved gardening and flowers, sewing, reading and had a special passion for selecting and purchasing clothing. She was devoted to her family.
Her funeral will be held Monday, January 27 at 11:00 AM in Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 37 Lake Parkway, Webster. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, January 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Donations in her name may be made to the church, PO Box 713, Webster, MA 01570-0713. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
