PLYMOUTH ---- Kenneth Iver Bergstrom, 89, died in his sleep at his home in Plymouth, NH on January 14. 2025 of a cardiac arrest.
Ken was born on June 29, 1935, in Chicago, IL, the son of Iver and Albina Bergstrom. He graduated from North Park High School and attended St. Olaf College, in Northfield, MN; the University of Illinois, in Chicago, IL; and the US Naval Postgraduate School, in Monterey, CA, where he received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degree in Management. Ken also studied Medieval Studies at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Plymouth State College, Plymouth NH.
Ken was designated as a Naval Aviator in l956 and was promoted to Commander in l969. He proudly served 22 years in the US Navy. Ken also served an equal number of years in education instructing at MIT in Boston, MA; the University of Connecticut, in Storrs, CT; and Plymouth State College, in Plymouth, NH.
Ken was a member of the Pemi Choral Society in Plymouth, NH, for over twenty years, having served a term as president. He was an avid gardener having raised flowers over many years. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Parish in Plymouth, NH. He was a faithful man devoted to Jesus Christ and the Roman Catholic Church.
Ken is survived by his wife, Joan Bergstrom; son, Michael Bergstrom, and his wife Paula, of Wilton, NH; daughters, Rowena Bergstrom, of Pensacola, FL, and Marianna Evans and her husband Bennett, of Holderness, NH; sister Adrienne Engleson, of Lincolnshire, IL; and grandchildren Hannah Whitston and her husband Adam, of Dunnellon, FL, Erran and Sadie Bergstrom, of Foley, AL, Max Bergstrom, of Homewood, AL, Anabelle and Natalie Bergstrom, of Milton, NH, and Albina Fishman, of Holderness, NH; two great-grandchildren and two nieces and four nephews. In addition to his parents, Ken is predeceased by his sons Olin and Eric Bergstrom, and brother Roy Bergstrom.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to Catholic Charities.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Matthews Church, Holy Trinity Parish, 11 School Street, Plymouth, NH, followed by a reception and lunch in the church hall.
A Memorial Service with military honors will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 2:00pm, in the chapel, at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
