Frances P. Cunningham passed away peacefully at her home in Whitman on January 13th. She was 74. Born in Boston and raised in Wilmington and Dorchester, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Katherine (Joyce) Vaughn.
Frances was a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. After her early childhood in Wilmington, she grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Cathedral High School. She then attended Stonehill College in Easton, where she earned a bachelor’s degree, and Bridgewater State College, where she received a master’s degree. She worked most of her professional life as a chemist at Brockton Hospital, which brought her great joy and many challenges for 40 years. Early in her adulthood she lived in Quincy, then spent many decades living in Brockton and Avon, where she was an active parishioner of Saint Michael’s parish. In her later years she lived in Whitman, where her fellow residents of Harvard Court welcomed her. As a young woman, she enjoyed sailing on the Charles River, deep sea fishing, and motorcycles. She liked to listen to Simon and Garfunkel and watch old movies
She was a devoted mother to Sarah Cunningham, who passed away in 2022. She was a dear sister to Mary M. Wilson of Concord, NH (formerly of Quincy) and Irene Vaughn Green of Meggett, SC. She was a dear sister-in-law to the late Robert D. “Bob” Wilson and the late Lawrence "Buddy" Green. She was a loving aunt to Rev. Richard Wilson of Fall River, the late Katherine Danehy of Hanover, Paul V. Wilson of Merrimac, MA and Suzanne Weaver of Concord, NH. She was the ex-wife of the late George Cunningham
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Fran's family at Sacred Heart Church, 386 Hancock St., North Quincy on Monday, January 27 from 10-11 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Services will conclude with burial at Saint Michael Cemetery, Avon.
