Obituary

CHICOPEE – Thomas G. Potvin, 80, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, January 19, 2025. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on November 14, 1944, a beloved son of the late Alfred and Mary (Lynch) Potvin. He graduated from Chicopee High School, attended Holyoke Community College and lived in Chicopee his entire life. He served in the Army National Guard. He was an IT Specialist at Pratt & Whitney in Windsor Locks, Connecticut and retired in 2006. He was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. Tom enjoyed playing cribbage at the Chicopee Senior Center, however, he was passionate about fishing in his kayak and going on fishing trips to Maine. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Phyllis (Laskowski) Potvin. They were married on June 4, 1966 at Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 58 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving and devoted children, Thomas S. Potvin of Chicopee and Sherry L. Griffin and her husband, Joseph, of West Roxbury; his two cherished granddaughters, Brenna and Caitlin Griffin; his two dear brothers, Paul Potvin of Chicopee and Scott Potvin of Texas; his dear sister, Sister Therese-Marie Potvin of the Sisters of Mercy in Dakar, Africa; his dear sister-in-law, Linda Hernke and her husband, Frank, of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear two dear brothers, Alfred Potvin and Robert Potvin; and his dear uncle and aunt, Raymond and Helene Potvin. His family will receive friends on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will be private at a later date at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery in Chicopee.
