Anita Stewart “Priss” Stovall, 99, of Tifton passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Maple Court Assisted Living in Tifton, surrounded by her loving family. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Enigma Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Jeff Able officiating. Mrs. Stovall will be laid to rest at Enigma Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Enigma Congregational Christian Church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Cliff Stewart, Billy Stewart, David Stewart, Larry Kennedy, Ted Cone, Tom Riddle, Tyler Riddle, Chase Riddle, Hampton Riddle and Alan Kennedy will serve as pallbearers.
Born November 30, 1925, in Berrien County, Mrs. Stovall was the daughter of the late Jacob Franklin Stewart and Ethel Keiffer Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Sid Stovall, and her brothers and sisters, Pat and Dot Stewart, Harold and Mildred Stewart, Ray Stewart, and Eugene Stewart.
Mrs. Stovall was a member of Enigma Congregational Christian Church and has been a faithful servant of our Lord in many aspects throughout her life. She has been a stable supporter of many organizations, and she was truly a God-seeking woman, desiring to make a difference.
Anita enjoyed several hobbies. She loved spending time on the Flats fishing. One of her favorite ways to spend her free time was volunteering for various organizations. She also loved to coach basketball for the local community in Enigma.
Mrs. Stovall attended public school in Berrien County and then went on to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. She then attended Barbizon School of Modeling on Fifth Avenue in New York.
Mrs. Stovall’s professional life spanned many decades of dedication and hard work. She enjoyed modeling for several years in New York. Following her time in New York, she came home to Enigma to teach school for a short time. She then returned to modeling in Columbus, where she owned and was the director of a charm and modeling school, and also modeled in Atlanta. She was also a television fashion commentator in the Columbus area.
Following her modeling career, she was the program director of entertainment and recreation for the Third Army Headquarters. A few years later, she had a distinguished career in real estate in Atlanta and Valdosta and owned the Stovall Realty Company in Valdosta.
Anita served her community on many organizations including Tift Regional Medical Center Board of Directors and one of the founders and Past Chairman of Candy Stripers and Pink Ladies, as well as the American Cancer Society Board of Directors. She held offices as Chairman of Gubernatorial Candidate, James Gray and Council Member for the City of Enigma. She served on the Task Force Housing Committee at Moody Air Force Base; a Pink Lady at Tift Regional Medical Center, Member of Newcomers Committee and the Tourist and Convention Committee for the Valdosta Chamber of Commerce.
Anita was a recipient of the George Wright Award for outstanding community service.
Her adoption journey and sharing life with daughter, Susan Stovall Way, has been one of the most treasured blessings in her life. Anita has loved being her Mom! She dearly loved her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She will be dearly missed.
Anita is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Stan Way; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Evelyn Stewart; and her nieces and nephews, Kay Stewart Cone and Ted, Carol Stewart Kennedy and Larry, Billy Stewart and Judy, Angela Stewart DeLorme and Dean, David Stewart and Angela, Kimberly Stewart, Jayne Stewart Hunter and Larry, Juli Stewart Riddle and Tom, Jill Stewart; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
